3. Objective of BVDzero Award

With this Award Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH would like to encourage you to do research on BVD and deliver BVD cases from all over Europe to make BVD more visible for all players in the cattle industry. Using these clinical cases we will increase BVD communication across Europe and create awareness on the current BVD status in other countries.

5. Eligibility and limitations

Any person involved in the cattle industry in Europe (excluding Belgium).

Employees of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH or its affiliated companies and their immediate families, the members of the BVDzero Award Committee and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.

Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, research, diagnostics, animal science, veterinary practice, production veterinary medicine, cattle production and animal health & welfare.

6. Application Procedure
The application has to comply with the form provided by the BVDzero Award Committee located in the Instruction tab on the right side. The form can be uploaded at the tab Submission Form. The submission must be executed according to the instructions on the website.

7. Timelines:

Submission Timeline: cases can be submitted until 30.06.2016

Material Review: cases submissions will be reviewed until 31.07.2016

Award Ceremony: the awards will be presented at the end of November 2016

8. Prizes:

i) BVDzero Award Prizes :

For the best ten participating clinical cases our sponsor will offer a total amount of €15,000, which will be distributed among the top 10 clinical cases, according to the following distribution list

10. Selection criteria:

The BVDzero Award Committee, with no influence from the sponsoring company or the BVDzero team will select proposals based on the following criteria:

a. The context of BVD i.e. specific BVD or secondary disease caused by BVD

b. Case selection and significance

c. Clinical findings

d. Quality and relevance of submitted images and video material

e. Presence and Quality of laboratory data

f. Historical information regarding case and farm

g. Discussion of epidemiological relevance of the outbreak

h. Farmer/herd manager interview about the case

All criteria listed above are optional, the relevance depending upon the specific clinical case. The more relevant information provided the increased chance of selection by the Committee.

11. Confidentiality of Proposals:

The BVDzero Award Committee agrees not to discuss proposals outside the board venue (if an applicant contacts any member of the review board, the proposal will be automatically discarded).

The BVDzero Award Committee members have signed a confidentiality agreement regarding information disclosure, which can be provided upon request.

Personnel of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH and/or of its affiliated companies, who will manage the practical collection of applications, will comply with the same level of confidentiality as the board members.

12. Board Member Conflict of Interest:

Board Members cannot review a proposal that they are part of or that is submitted from their home institution, or if the board member has been involved in proposal preparation at any level. It is upon each Board Member’s ethics to disclose any conflict of interest.

13. Use of the Submitted Materials

All information submitted in your Clinical Case, including without limitation, all documents, images, videos, reports, and materials, becomes the property of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH upon submission. By signing the attached “Transfer of rights & Warranty”, you unconditionally give all right, title and interest in the Clinical Case and all included materials, to Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH, and unconditionally grant it the right to use, reproduce, distribute, create copies or derivative works, each in whole or in part, for research, commercial activities and/or promotional activities. Clinical Cases submitted without a properly executed “Transfer of rights & Warranty” will not be considered.

14. Withdrawal of your consent to the processing of personal data

In case you withdraw your consent to the processing of personal data as contemplated in the “Data Protection and Consent Form” Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH may exclude you from the Competition.

15. Privacy and Professional Secrecy Laws

Personal data of third persons (other than yourself) may only be part of your submission with prior consent by that the relevant persons which shall be documented in writing and provided to Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH upon request.

In case you are subject to professional obligations of secrecy (e.g., as a veterinarian), participation is permitted only in case your submission does not contain information to which such secrecy obligations apply or with prior consent by the owner of such information. Noncompliance with this requirement does not only lead to exclusion from the Award, but may also result in criminal liability.

16. Liability

In case of intent or gross negligence by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH or any legal representative or a person used to perform an obligation of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH is liable according to the provisions of the applicable law. The liability for culpable damage to life, body or health as well as the liability under the Product Liability Act shall remain unaffected.

Any liability not expressly provided for above shall be disclaimed, without limitation, for any damage or loss suffered by any participant of the BVDzero Award, or as a result of accepting any prize. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH, if not expressly provided for above, is not responsible for malfunctions or failures of any kind which may limit an online participant´s ability to participate in the BVD Award, and any injury or damage to participant´s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in or downloading any information necessary to participate in the BVD Award.

17. Taxes.

Each winner is solely responsible for reporting and paying any and all applicable taxes related to the prize(s) and paying any expenses associated with any prize(s) which is(/are) not specifically provided for in the BVD Terms and Conditions. All amounts of the prize(s) are including all applicable taxes. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH may report any prize awarded to a winner for tax purposes as required by law.”

18. Law & Jurisdiction

The BVDzero Award Terms and conditions shall be interpreted in accordance with German laws and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Regional Court Düsseldorf (Landgericht Düsseldorf), Germany.
